Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is a 4 bed unit with 2 bed sedation unit. The PICU provides advanced medical care to critically ill infants, children and adolescents, using the most up-to-date technologies and medical techniques. We care for children with a variety of medical issues, ranging from post-operative care and recovery to acute life-threatening injuries and illnesses.

Additionally, the PICU provides pediatric sedation for many different outpatient procedures. This allows our subspecialist partners to perform needed medical tests for your child in a safe and comfortable manner.

As a military medical facility with active duty staff members, we are fully aware of the stresses of active duty service and are able to work closely with parents' commands for any active duty issues. Our staff works closely with a full spectrum of pediatric surgical and medical subspecialists as well as social workers, discharge planners and clergy to offer the most complete care for your child during his/her illness.
