Pulmonology

The Department of Adult Pulmonary Medicine provides comprehensive subspecialty care for inpatients and outpatients at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

Our Mission

The Department of Adult Pulmonary Medicine will provide timely and comprehensive care to active-duty service members, their families, and retirees. We will provide coordinated subspecialty care to ensure optimal fleet support. We will support our trainees by providing clinical and didactic instruction. We will work diligently to support the Department of Critical Care Medicine and the Department of Respiratory Therapy to ensure that our patients receive the best care possible.

Types of Services

The Pulmonary Division provides the following types of services:

A. Inpatient Pulmonary Medicine Consultation
B. Outpatient Pulmonary Medicine Consultation
C. Outpatient Pulmonary follow-up care in selected cases
D. Bronchoscopy with biopsy
E. Thoracentesis
F. Pulmonary Function Testing
G. Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing
H. Bronchoprovocation testing with Inhaled Methacholine and/or Exercise Testing
I. Tobacco Cessation Classes

Tobacco Cessation

Want to quit smoking or vaping, the Division of Pulmonary Medicine offers one-hour walk-in classes and same day treatment for nicotine addiction. Two classes are offered each month at the Pulmonary Clinic on floor 2 of Building 2 at NMCP.
