Specialty care is advanced care you get from a medical professional who is a specialist. This type of care is for diagnosis and treatment of diseases. If your primary care provider or manager isn't qualified to provide this care, he or she may refer you to specialist who can.
Patients must have a referral from their PCM prior to receiving Specialty Care appointments.
Once your referral or consult has been approved, you may make your appointment by calling the Hampton Roads Appointment Center at 1-866-645-4584,or by calling our clinic directly. Follow-up appointments are usually scheduled by clinic staff.
The Allergy and Immunology clinic is available to evaluate and treat patients with a wide range of allergic and immunologic disorders.

Our board certified Dermatologists provide complete diagnostic evaluation and treatment of disorders of the skin, hair, and nails.
Specialty care for adults with Diabetes and Endocrine Diseases/Consultative Evaluations and Follow Up provided by staff Endocrinologists and a Diabetes Nurse Practitioner.
The field of medicine concerned with the function and disorders of the digestive system and the liver. Medical evaluation, management and treatment of acute and chronic Gastroenterologic problems and liver disease.
Cancer Care -- Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMPC) Oncology Department provides high-quality hematologic and oncologic care throughout the illness continuum.
The Infectious Disease Division strives to minimize the impact of infectious disease conditions in adults. Provides for comprehensive primary and specialty care and management of HIV infection in adults. We also provide Travel Medicine Counseling along with prescriptions and administration of vaccinations necessary for safe travel.
The Nephrology Division provides timely and comprehensive nephrologic care for adults with medical kidney disease. Inpatient and outpatient services are available to active duty military personnel, adult dependents, and retirees. Appointments are available by consultation only.
The Neurology Division provides consultation, diagnosis, treatment, and educational services to all beneficiaries 18 and older, both inpatient and outpatient, with diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscle. Our mission is to enhance health, well-being, and fleet readiness through patient care, medical education, and clinical research.
Occupational Therapy services offered to include: Acute and Orthopedic Hand Therapy. We also offer Occupational Therapy specialty services with Certified Hand Therapy.
The Ophthalmology Clinic is a specialty clinic that provides care for medical and surgical diseases of the eye. All new patients are required to have a referral from their Primary Care Manager before an appointment can be made.
All pregnant Active Duty service members and Tricare Prime beneficiaries will receive obstetric care from Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) or the branch clinics (Sewell’s Point, Boone, and Dam Neck).
The Otolaryngology Department will provide and coordinate care relative to the examination, diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate disposition of patients with diseases, or injuries of the head and neck.
The pediatricians and pediatric specialists at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth are dedicated to the care of children, adolescents and young adults.
The Physical Therapy Department at NMC Portsmouth and our satellite clinics are dedicated to facilitating recovery and return to duty for injured active duty service members. Physical Therapy services offered, to include: Poly Trauma, Orthopedic and Acute Care.
The Division of Pulmonary Medicine provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services primarily to the adult population served by Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth.
The Rheumatology Clinic provides Specialty care for our active duty and beneficiary population 18yrs of age with systemic inflammatory arthritis and the autoimmune connective tissue disease. We also provide evaluation and advice for patients with musculoskeletal pain that is mechanical, myofascial or degenerative in nature.
Naval Medical Center Portsmouth provides TBI care for AD service members who are experiencing cognitive and physical symptoms related to concussion/TBI history. TBI Services provides coordination of care amongst core TBI services utilizing a traditional referral-based model. Specialty treatment appointments arranged by the TBI Services intake provider.
The Urology Clinic at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth specializes in providing comprehensive care to eligible beneficiaries with disorders of the urinary tracts of males and females, and on the reproductive system of males.
