Base Access Information

**YOU ARE ENTERING U.S. GOVERNMENT PROPERTY**

Obey any and all orders of the base police. They are here to provide a safe and secure environment for our military members, family members, base personnel, and visitors. If you disagree with their decisions, please follow the given directions and then call the Base Security Department at (757) 953–7790.

Access Procedures

Personnel requiring access to NSN or NSA Hampton Roads tenant installations who do not qualify for a DOD ID/PIV/CAC must request installation access. An authorized sponsor must submit an access request on the individual’s behalf. This request will include a completed and signed a base access pass registration form SECNAV 5512/1 and will be sent via encrypted email to the Regional Clearance Center; cnic_cnrma_cvs@navy.mil. The individual is required to present a valid, authorized photo ID and the completed  SECNAV 5512/1 to meet identity criteria. See Flyer for details and QR Code.

  1. All motorists and pedestrians must have valid government identification and/or driver’s license, and an insurance and registration card to drive on to the base. 
  2. All vehicles entering the base are subject to random search. The following items are prohibited: firearms, drugs and weapons of any kind.
  3. Motorists shall approach the front gate in the far right lane on Effingham Street.
  4. Tell the gate sentry the name of the patient you are visiting in the Emergency Department or on the inpatient wards.
  5. Each visitor (motorists and pedestrians) must have a valid government identification. Passengers under the age of 18 do not need to provide identification, however, they must be accompanied by an adult at all times while on the base. The following unexpired documents are acceptable forms of identification:
  • Driver's License issued by a state or outlying possession of the U.S. that contains photograph and info such as name, birthdate, gender, height, eye color, and address.
  • D card issued by federal, state, or local government agency that contains a photo and info such as name, birthdate, gender, height, eye color, and address.
  • School ID card with photo.
  • Driver's license issued by a Canadian Government authority.
If you arrive at the gate without prior approval you will be required to complete a base access pass registration form SECNAV 5512/1. A background check will take approximately 15 minutes or more to process. 

Discovery of any of the following during the background check will result in a denial of installation access privileges:

  • A felony conviction within the past 10 years
  • A felony arrest within 10 years that has not yet been adjudicated
  • Previous on-base arrests within the last 5 years
  • Conviction of terrorism
  • Placement on the Terrorist Watch List
  • A felony conviction of any sexual offense regardless of date
  • Registration with the National Sex Offender Registry
  • Debarment from any other DON installation

Emergency Room Directions

Once approved for entry on the base, turn right on Williamson Drive. Follow the signs leading to the Emergency Department parking lot. If the lot is full, proceed forward and take a left on Green Street. Take the next right to enter the parking garage. Once inside the garage, park and follow the signs to the Emergency Department.

Vehicle Requirements

All vehicles entering the installation shall have current registration and proof of insurance. All vehicles are subject to inspection. Dash cameras must be removed or covered when on the installation.

Contraband

Personnel will not be granted access to installation if they bring weapons, controlled substances, or drug paraphernalia. Marijuana, CBD products, or any items/products associated with marijuana are not authorized on Federal Property.

Parking

Parking for staff members is concentrated in three major areas. Most staff members are expected to park in the parking garage. The ground, first, and second levels of the garage are reserved for patients and visitors only. Staff vehicles found in patient areas will be booted or towed. Limited staff parking is also available next to the pool and the gym.
