Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program
The Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) of the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth provides screening, preventive, and Dual Diagnosis rehabilitative services for substance abuse / dependence. We offer Prime for Life (level .5), Level 1 treatment, Level 2 Intensive Outpatient, and Continuing Care. All programs meet criteria specified by local agencies such as the Virginia Safety Action Program (VASAP) and local courts.
As of 17 SEP 2024, NMCP’s SARP Program suspended its Level 3 Residential Program due to staffing constraints. To meet the needs of our referring providers, SARP Case Management will assist commands with the placement process for service members needing Level 3 residential care. Inpatient Behavioral Health will continue to manage the disposition of their patients to residential treatment.
The referral process for SARP/SUD has not changed and are outlined below:
- SARP retains the Right of First Refusal [ROF] for the Tidewater Catchment Area and all requests for deferral to Level 3 will still come through SARP for deferral approval
- Level 2.1 & Level 2.5 patients still need to complete the registration form, SHAPES physical and required labs for enrollment into SARP
- Level 3 requests [from locations other than Inpatient Behavioral Health] will need only the registration form and LIP assessment, as applicable, to assist our case manager in directing patients to appropriate facilities.
Please direct any questions or concerns to SARP leadership:
CDR Carla Graham, Dept Head
CAPT Holshoe, Medical Director
Dr. Rushing, Program Manager
