Health Promotion and Wellness
To improve and sustain military readiness by increasing awareness, providing education, and intervention to promote healthy lifestyle for Sailors, DOD personnel, and other beneficiaries of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth
To provide resources to promote improvement and maintenance of health, fitness, and quality of life through a collaborative effort with specialty services and departments based on community needs assessment and interest of beneficiaries.
Health Promotion and Wellness Services Provided
Individual counseling sessions are available. Designed to provide a basic understanding of nutrition and includes the importance of healthy food choices, reading food labels, and lifestyle changes in relation to good health. Call (757) 953-2631 to schedule an appointment.
8 – Week Program. This 8 week program has an open enrollment so you may join at any time. Registration paperwork is required for enrollment in this program. Program reinforces fitness, fun and healthy lifestyle changes. Topics include: Nutrition, Fitness, Stress Management, and Long Term Success! Group and Individual Counseling sessions are available. Program provides all the tools necessary to successfully become tobacco free. Medications to help with tobacco cessation are available. We offer Chantix, Zyban, and Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Call (757) 953-1927 to schedule an appointment. Please leave a message if there is no answer.
Education teaches what you can do to increase your “good” cholesterol, lower your “bad” cholesterol, how to take your medications, the importance of follow up appointments and how to protect your heart against disease.
Education teaches the things that you can do to control your high blood pressure, taking your medications correctly, the importance of follow up appointments and preventing damage from uncontrolled high blood pressure.
Wellness and Readiness Program
Body composition, metabolic and fitness assessments, weekly wellness classes, regular check-ins with your health coach to make
sure you are staying on track with your health goals, and more.
